im putting a drum on an evo front end, so i have to turn my axle on the lathe, but that will leave me with a skinnier axle. i can get bearings, but they will have the same outer diameter, so there will be less grease, less surface area and just smaller bearings in general. im pretty sure im going to make my axle into a toothpic and run the stock bearings, what do you guys think?

when i put a sportster drum on my narrowed wideglide i machined down the axle to fit the sportster bearings. i've never heard of a sportster axle breaking because it was too small a dia. a lot of the old chopper wheels had 5/8 axles.
