hey guys i am new to this board, i was hoping someone could help me out, recently i purchased an old big bore setup for the triumph unit twins after some examination i was able to determine the kit i got is a Sonny Routt 800cc setup with Jahns pistons, the issue i have is this, while trying to locate some replacement rings i have gotten all sorts of opinions about running this setup. some guys are trying to tell me that i will have nothing but problems, from my head gaskets blowing to the crank not being strong enough to handle the added power and weight of the pistons. i spoke with tom over at r and r cycle who purchased all of sonny's original tooling and parts and he seems to be under the impression that these opinions are unfounded. i was hoping somebody here has had experience with the 800cc setup and could let me know how it worked out also i still need to locate a set of rings for this thanks

IMHO...If the person that assemblies that motor does it right you will have no problems with that set-up.

Alot of engine troubles are not linked to problems with the parts, but instead with the semi-trained grease monkey that put it together.

I am running the Routt 800 kit on my '68 TR6. I have had no problems with head gaskets or anything related to the jugs. Been reliable to me after about 1500 miles that I put on it so far. Sorry I can't help with the rings.

Is the 9th bolt used on these heads with the 800 plus big bore kits??? i have a 750 kit and there is not much meat between the 9th bolt hole and the cylinder wall...how do they go much larger on the bores? offset the bores????? and the gasket is pretty thin around this area too....just curious...
