I agree it's changed and not necessarly for the better, Doug had his good days and his bad days, I enjoyed both.
But I'm guilty too.

Agree

Being as young as I am coming onto this board a couple years ago was very intimidating, it was the guys that pointed me in right direction, gave pats on the back, and would give insight on any questions or concerns that I had that keeps me here. Its that kind of help that not only helps to get young generations into the hobby and but also keep the knowledge flowing on the sight rather than all the crap. Like tommy said about the search google crap, thats hard to do especially if you are not real sure as to what you may be searching.

I agree, and thanks for having the balls to call us out for it. I'm quilty of being a stickler about the intro. And I think it needs to be done, but I could probably be a little kinder pointing it out. Its a give and take situation here, and I think its old fashioned courtesy to introduce ones self. Its like showing up unknown at a Barbeque, with no beer and going strait to the cooler without so much as a fuck you. It would get your ass kicked in my world. So asking to be a included here, I think the cost of admission is an intro. Small price to pay for the knowledge found here. And yeah, I to miss the hell out of Dragon.

I know Mike I know. I would rather guys here point them to this link.
Much like dragon did.

http://jockeyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57757

He would direct new guys to this with out being an ass. There is no need for
guys to make 9 different replys all saying "search". At the end of the day, either
your that cyber bully or the dude that helped a brother out. Your call fellas.
Agree.

You know, I surf here every day. I don't post every day. I'm here to LEARN about bikes, 'cause I honestly don't know shit.

Guys like Dragon, Shovithead, Destralo Roach, and a bunch more whose names ain't comin' to mind as I type have all answered dumbass questions of mine. And I didn't get any "go DAFS you fucking n00b" shit.

As far as google or any other search function goes, sometimes if you don't have the right term, you won't go anywhere.

Instance, I have a revolver I got... don't know a damned thing about it. So, I google. I look at all kinds of pics of pre-1899 revolvers. Nada.

I probably spent at least two weeks worth of evenings looking over the course of a few months.

One day, I happened to try "folding trigger revolver". By the end of the night, I knew that I had a Belgian revolver chambered for pinfire ammo, knew even which town it was made in, and that it fell within a certain range of years.

If someone had told me to include "pinfire" in my search criteria, that would have been helpful. Telling me to search; not so much.

Dolce, I dont care anymore. I try to answer questions if I can, I make it a point to call a douche a douche if necessary. Half the guys on here are assholes, there is no fixin it, look at the HAMB...we here, know who will help, and who will only holler.......Help who you can when you can.

Nothing will be perfect forever...myabe we've jumped the shark as they say...

Maybe I Kinda of agree.

No offense jason, but dragon was the referee, the encyclopedia of knowledge, the parts guy, Harley and British knowledgeable. There was no need to report. I have reported one thing and it was taken care of immediately. Thank you for that.

We're all adults here and here to learn or help.

We had dragon to remind us of that and he and i weren't best of friends and I wasn't too fond of his style but after i learned more about him I respected his actions. I didn't know until after i saw the post he passed that he did help out his fellow biker and was trying to assist his sick mother and I had no idea he was sick himself. If i would have, i wouldnt have acted like a hotshot. He did call me out a few times but honestly it was nothing like we treat people now.

He had more time to help out here than the people who run this due to his condition since he wasn't too able to ride or build. Which was nice to have that. If we all helped out of kicked in more than just lurked through threads that pique our interest and fireball a newbie about intros and searches, this would be a better place.

Jason your right, this place is what we make it. Let's keep it how we want it.

agree wholeheartedly, I don't post everyday and I don't pretend to know all that much...but I do know what drew me here originally. The fact that it was a well organized wealth of knowledge about things I/we all cared about. There are still plenty of guys here who are quick to help out with little or large things, but theres also plenty of guys who have decided to try and take dragon's spot and become head honcho while doing it in the wrong way. In the end I guess its really up to all of us to police ourselves but at least don't be a douche about it...anyways, I'm drunk and I have to work way too early so that's all folks

Oh but Doug has his moments of being an ass quite often too, depending on how much of an ass the other party was being, he would bring it to the next level of assery and 9 out of 10 times it was warranted. And very humerous to those of us who really knew "Doug" as well as "Dragon".

See some people have a misconception about riding our taste in motorcycles, and when they join they feel the need to show how loud and proud they are to say FTW which in their minds will help them fit in better. But little do they know the majority of members here have gotten over all that rebel without a cause shit and just enjoy looking at, riding and talking about motorcycles.

It's like those chachi's you see with their gel helmets all sculpted up going to a bar to start fights to show how tough they are. They spend so much time trying to show how badass they are that they don't realize that there's a ton more in front of them like smokin hot women (or men depending on what you're into).

Anyway thats just my 2 cents CDN about the situation, if a dude's gonna be a dick then he's gonna get treated like a dick or the opposite. Obviously Doug made his mark if people (and i've even caught myself doing it) automatically jump on the search or intro wagon because if you ever spent more than 10 minutes here lurking, thats what you would see happen whether it be nicely or assholish (is that even a word?)

My train of thought has reached the station, I'm done, my brain hurts now.
Agree

Since you brought it up though, I was looking for some simple wire diagrams for my 79 Triumph the other day and the Dragon quotes you just posted came up, along with a LOT of use the search button by Doug and others. Ya, Ive said it myself in the past probably more than a few times. What I got out of it though was that there have been sooooo many redirects and use the search button endings to sooooo many of the same questions, that I never did find what I was looking for. All I ever got was the redirects. I don't have a solution to the problem, but I just figured I would mention it as a constructive opinion. It does seem at least to me that the search is inhibited these days with all the redirects. It was much more friendly in the past. .o2

PS. It always seemed as though he knew where EVERYTHING was. Don't know how he did it? Now I'm gonna go look in the search bar for some of the old HackAsaw posts. Hahaha. Need a good laugh, and you brought up some of the times he gave people shit when they deserved it! If your new here and never read any of those posts just look up HackAsaw and have a beer and a laugh. Out...

I agree...jumping down peoples throats at the drop of a hat isn't cool by any standards but in some instances I feel it's warranted...Dolce what would the outcome have been in Dicks shop had you strolled up with your project and said "tell me how to build this and tell me what the parts are called"? Not the same I imagine...you showed respect and EARNED his friendship...it's the guys that stroll in here and figure they'll pop in and learn some period correct terminology to impress their friends and build a bike "by themselves" that rub me the wrong way....which is why I choose to lurk here as opposed to CC

Agree.

Some things just arent replaceable. Not that Id want a replacement.

Im dont think there is one person that can take on what he did, & be the asshole always watching over JJ. Everybody here knew, in the afternoons, any bad things starting got cleaned up by dinner time.

I just miss him.

I agree with Jason. Sure it was nice having Dragon on top of things, but he's gone and unless someone wants to be on here 24 hours a day like Dragon seemed to be then the best thing you can do is add your knowledge to the best of your ability and ignore the assholes. Hell, I usually stop reading a thread when it seems like its turning into a trainwreck.
