I like what you have, but I'll tell ya from experience. I used 1" aluminum plate cut almost like what you have done. It was good for about 6 months. One day while leisurely hitting a huge pot hole( that I did not see) my right foot hit the pavement. The foot peg clattered down the street. To my surprise the peg was not broken but the hole where it threaded in was split out and the top half was gone. I replaced the plates w/ steel ones and never had that problem again.

 

Wow, that's a crazy experience. On one of my other bike's I used 1/2 inch 6061 plate and so far it's been 4 + years. On this set-up the bolts attach directly to the frame, so no chance for failure.

Update, turned down a couple of bolts to adapted as plungers and cut up some SS 1/2 inch half round for the lower leavers.

I have a question, if I twist the centers will they get longer or shorter?

Well in and by it's self I doubt it would have much of an effect, but accumulatively with about 8 ft. of SS tubing the design of the oil tank and oil filter system, my hope is it will have the desired effect.
However I will have to get back with you with actual results, but more importantly It looks cool.

Ya it's tuff finding a good welder. My Buddy Randy weld just as bad, but what can you do?

 

Before my tenure working with george, I could call myself a welder, but by the time he moved back to his garage I was more comfortable using the term fabricator. He sends me work occasionally when he doesn't want to do it or is too busy. It sounds like he's coming back to Tucson soon too. And obviously you got one of the dopest frames being built. Where's the girder pic btw, which legs are on it?

 

Is George still making frames and front ends? I always enjoyed his stuff, top notch all the way around.

 

I dont think he's stopped. I think he's about to move back to tucson from Stafford in the next month maybe.

I visited his shop when he was in Vail, incredible work.

 

A little jig I made up to keep everything in place when welding. This is as far as I've gotten because of the weather since I do all my metal shaping/polishing outside. As you can see I need to shorten the half rounds and polish the bungs before welding.

 

In order to form a more perfect union welded up the top half round and then heated them up to get the desired radius. Still have to make proper bungs for the toe peg end and then there's a boat load of polishing before final welding.

 

Finally a break in the weather, was able to grind and polish up some bits and weld them together. Still working on getting the scale off the parts I bent the other day for the upper lever.
