I like this but there's just something a bit off - bars? or maybe needs a 21 up front.

These are cool bikes, but I would not say they were predecessors to the digger. A digger has to have back bone stretch, and shortened down tubes to make the frame long and low. These are more like early 70's Frisco, which of course is in northern CA.
