We used to cruise Van Nuys back in the 70's
a buddy of mine had a V8 Vega with a built Vette motor.
Also had a fast GTO, Got way too many Tickets & havn't been back since.

 

You Boys out West got it going on there...

Where I came from, We had a A&W Rootbeer stand to drive around, and a Bootlegger down the road a bit. ( Also had to pipe in sunshine !! )

Me and my buds used to cruise Van Nuys Blvd. until it got too hot with cops and $250.00 tickets (1981 dollars). Then we went to Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood and more cops. LAPD was bent on stopping the cruisers (bikers, lowriders, V-dubs and those goofy mini-trucks) I tell ya it was the silly mini-trucks that did it. Nobody wants to see that shit!! I'd be suprised to see any cruise go on for more than an hour before it gets busted up in the Valley. I say cruise the shit out of Van Nuys Blvd. then hit San Fernando road. More straightaways, less lights & better bars. -Local

That flyer is badass!

 

Yeah It was the lame mini trucks that did it in for the cruisers, I think some of
the cops actually dug the big muscle cars that ruled the day But those whiney
little 4 banger trucks got to be real annoying, kind of like a Skeeter buzzing
around your ear. I think Sunset blvd still has those lame signs they posted up
years ago about It being illegal if You drive Your vehicle in one direction more than once in a specified time frame.
another cruising spot was Hermosa Ave from the pier to King Harbor, But
the cops harassed everyone & It died out like everything else.
This is just 1 of the MANY reasons why I Hate cops.

 

there's a tiny little note on the flyer that says "the cruise ban has been lifted"

too bad they mispelled buisness and it even says the flyer was done the right way "with pride" not spell-check

Cruising Van Nuys Blvd sucks! It's all about Whittier Blvd!

 

^^^^Hey... We used to cruise the shit outa Whittier Blvd. & Yes Whittier
Blvd. was even better than Van Nuys. Whittier was the King of Bully-vards.

 

People came from all over the planet to cruise Van Nuys in the 70's. It was actually gang bangers that fucked it up for everybody. Everybody in the valley was there on Wednesday and Friday, there was every kind of vehicle you could possibly imagine. I went to Whittier too, mostly lowriders back in the day. They also used to cruise San Fernando Mall, that was all lowriders. Back in the 70's I too was a lowrider from Tujunga..we was a different brand

it was way cool... might become a monthly thing, I only saw a really cool 45 servicar trike, I'll post an image in a bit, o yeah and another guy on a cafe racer something vintage making some passes.

 

There will be more at the next one, I dropped off a mess of flyers at that bike show going on in downtown on Saturday.
