larryt, how did you lower the ass on that blue bike ? is that an aftermarket frame ?
No, the bike is registered by the frame numbers (big bore engine with Delkron cases) so I had to use the original frame. He wanted the bike to sit as low as possible. I cut the frame under the seat and put in a stepped frame section out of a totaled kick start, swing arm frame. Then I dropped the lower shock mounts into the swing arm instead of having them on top of it. Used a little shorter shock too. I raked the frame 5 degrees and extended the front end 2" with extended bells on it. The bike is a little flashier than anything I'd ride, but he was happy with it.

Re: wide glide pics ?

ah sooo.... that's pretty much what i'm doing to my shovel right now. i cut the frame under the seat last night and lowered it down (got the same oil bag you used) and today i'm fabbing in the spacer blocks. i had moved my lower shock mounts to under the swingarm with 12 1/2" fxdi shocks but the chain hit the starter drive box so i moved them back to the top but slid back an inch. i'm working on a bobbed fender now (started out as a stock 73 fx fender) which i plan to lower in the fender struts as far as possible and still maintain tire clearance. might even flip the struts upside down. man i tell ya, dropping the ass on a swingarm bike is a bitch.

Yeah, this stuff can be a lot of work and when you're finished not many people notice what's done. Kinda like what I'm working on today. I'm filling about 60 holes in the cowl of a 56 Ford pickup. When it's finished, all of the work will be invisible. LOL
I've got another swingarm frame that I'm gonna drop the seat area. I think you can get it a little lower by cutting and welding than you can by using the swingarm Panhead castings. But if you want to use the Pan castings, V-Twin sells them.
The seat on the blue bike is a Mustang seat for a rigid.

the trick is to drop it while leaving the suspension functional...otherwise it might as well be a rigid.

looks like Larry got it right.

a rigid huh ? is the fender in stock relationship to the struts or did you move it around to fit the seat bottom ?

Re: wide glide pics ?

Thanks Tom, it worked out pretty well. We used 12" shocks on it and the belt drive gives you a little more room than a chain, so that helped.

Lilbill, the fender's pretty much stock location. The seat has a metal bottom and I had to "adjust" it a little, but not much.
