Casting is fucking COOL.
You can MAKE what you WANT-

I plan on taking a class this semester,
and it got me thinking of all the things I could come up with and create.

Taillight.
Primary cover.
Carb cover/air cleaner.
gas tank cap.
oil tank cap.
Crazy oval headlights-
Carb-angler (how much horsepower do those rob on single-carbed unit Triumphs?)

What I forget?
Some type of crazy-assed kicker pedal?

whizzerick, let be the first to say... fucking brilliant. I've been thinking of catsing a few pieces recently and maybe doing small batches. Fiend of mine works in a local foundary where most of the stuff they do is bronze casting. You should see the things they create, lifesize elephants, horses etc i shit you not. www.pangolin-editions.com I've been offered a job with him with all the training i can get, only one draw back, the job pays $18,000 less than what i get now. Tell me do you really enjoy what you do, job satisfaction? Once again, impressive castings!!

Thanks nifty!

And Greaseball, my intention is NOT to hijack this thread!
I just tought I'd share some of the stuff I've done in my basic home foundry...

I'm a graphic designer and most of my time is spent behind a computer screen... I LOVE my work, dont get me wrong, but this hobby let's me go back to what brought me to the arts in the first place: hand's on creativity...

It doesnt get more 'real' than molten metal!

I've visited 'commercial' foundries (NOT art related) and I wouldnt work there!
It's a 19th century trade with 19th century work conditions.

Art foundries, that's another thing.
The projects are stimulating and always different.

whizz: your casting is killer. those hamb items were awesome. are your casting skills self-taught or did you take a class somewheres? i've seen a few tuts and howtos online and wonderin if its as simple as they make it out to be... seems like a lot of trial and error.

i knew an old man once who hand built those minature steam trains for carrying folks in amusement parks. he made his own patterns and cast a BUNCH of the pieces himself. anyway he would go to the scrapyards and buy old carb bodies, rear view mirrors, door handles etc. because they were made of pot metal. he would melt it all down and use it for his castings. he did the same thing with scrap aluminum, brass and bronze. he was also a master machinest. that old fucker could make ANYTHING :)
