Trust Worthy Dyno Near Northern NJ?

2199 Views 16 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Topher
Just finished breaking in my 1250 conversion. Turned 500 miles this afternoon. Anyone know a reputable Dyno operator near me. I live in Mahwah NJ, 07430. I just want to make sure my timing and AFR's are good before I really get into it...

I know my local dealer "Bergen County HD" has one. Has anyone used them, or another close by?

Thanks.

Hey Holy,
I think you need to put more Miles on the Bike before you go thru the paces on a Dyno?
As far as Bergen, I do not know the current Mechanics but the Chief Parts Guy (that Knows His Sportsters) is Charlie Hausler of the 'Hausler Brothers' , Built the 1st Gas Sportster that went into the 8's at the drag strip back in the 80's, call him for his opinion,

JDS Cycle in Roselle Park. Mike is the manager. Lots of Dyno experience. They just did a sohc cb750 for me. Nicely tuned. They have experience with all kinds motors of the high HP persuasion and are racers themselves. You won't be disappointed.
Spencers cycle in Belleville, ask for Mark, all knowledgable talented guys there.
Hey, thanks for the options guys. I'll look into those. I'm trying to avoid the dealership only because of the attitude. Sees like they don't have time for anyone who does anything for themselves...

Yeah, and try going in there without a part number. They actually had to call Eric at the place on 17 to find one for me once. I truly despise the parts department there. They have a terrible attitude. Just seems like they don't want to work. At all. One guy there, skinny, looks like Brian Klock (is it Brian?) is pretty cool, the rest are douches.

Anyway, I have nothing of use to add. I can't sleep and figgered I'd throw my 2 cents in.

I think you're thinking of Mike at Bergen County. At least he fits the description. He is good. He's helped me out more than once. A couple of the other parts guys are just asses. They get all worked up if you try to order over the phone. They always try to make me "come in"

Well, I live a half hour away. Round trip, including standing in line, usually ends up being an hour and a half. So no, I won't "just come in".

I actually told one of them, who started to give me an attitude over the phone, that if they didn't want to sell it to me I would get it elsewhere. I was honestly surprised that he seemed to care.

Don't even get me started on the service dept. If they can't look the price up in their little book, they're not interested... They won't even come outside for a minute to look at something so you can order the correct part from THEIR parts dept.

Yeah, I'll make an appointment so I can get the correct part to put on myself, sure... It's a waste of time every time I go there. Unless I'm getting oil or something that I can't get elsewhere, I'm done with that place.

Hey man not sure if Hunnington LI is close enough but Andrew Rosa is a real motor builder and he has a dyno. Great guys no tude. I'm over in Oakland just down 202.

Hey thanks, but that might be a little far if I have to make adjustments and go back and forth and such.

I ride down 202 a lot. Trying to stay off 17 as much as possible!
If you haven't found someone, try Danny at Bay Cycles. In Bayonne. He has a dyno room. Good guy. Friend of mine. 201.437.1318. Speak directly to him. And call right before you head down. Otherwise, they won't start clearing out the room until you get there. Adds a bit of time.

Good luck. You find yourself at the Bergen Town Center in the next few days, drop me a line. I live right there, have the week off, and make a mean cup of joe.

Thanks, I'm sitting down to call a couple of these places right now. I'll give this one a call too. I don't have any time off during the week for about the next 4 months. On an internship... I wouldn't mind checking out some of your work sometime though. I followed the link to your shop site. Very impressive!
I've been dealing with Mark from Spencers Cycle in Bellville for about 15 years he is the best
Bruce's speed shop in rockaway has one not sure if bikes can go on it or its car only might sound dumb do they make a "bike" only dyno and a "car" only dyno?
Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. I made an appointment with Bay Cycles. I'm dropping it off in the morning.

Thanks again Topher!
No worries. Good luck with it.

Got my bike Dyno tuned. Here're the results. I was pleasantly surprised with the #'s
Here's the starting point. It's the blue line with the big dips in the curve...

Here's where it ended up:

I like that the torque is strong from 1800 right up to the rev limiter. I'm very happy considering I'm still on the stock cams, ignition, and untouched Thunderstorm heads.

I have to say that Danny at Bay Cycles in Bayonne was great to deal with.
