What do you "experienced" guys set your valve clearances at... Do you use the settings like given in the Haynes manual for example..?

Triumph Unit 650

Inlet valve clearance: 0.002"

Exhaust valve clearance: 0.004"

It's not a lot is it...??

Why is it that every time I check my settings are smaller or bigger than what it should be..?
Okay.. I'm running all new stuff inside my motor... Maybe it needs some "run in time"..?

I got rid of all my leaks... I'm also playing around with my magneto now, but that little hex shaft going from the cam to the mag is a total piece of shit... Not very much clever engineering from the Hunt guys if you ask me...

You're right Maurice, it's not a large gap. But to answer your question, yes, I use those settings.

The only thing I could suggest is to make sure it's good and cold before you do your adjustments and to make sure that the engine and valves are really in the correct positions when you do your checks. If you've used all or mostly new parts in your rebuild, I would expect to find the clearances changing for quite a few miles as things break in.
