I bought a 65' Triumph not long ago and decided it was time to go through the motor. Found the primary adjuster drain plug was pretty much being held in by silicone. Most of the threads in the case were gone, so I had the hole welded up to try and drill and tap for a new plug. Now I wanna try and use a new stock plug, but im not totally sure of the size tap I would need for this.

Im thinking 3/8 BSP?

Can any of you guys confirm or deny this?

I believe a 1965 650 used 7/16" BSF threads at the primary tensioner. That's 18 tpi with a 55º thread angle, good luck finding a tap. The later bikes used unified threads, you could probably buy the later plug (part # 57-2259) and tap to fit. I think the later plug is 7/16" NC.
