Not sure where that line drawing version came from, but that cutaway is part of the advertising bit for the introduction of the 650 Thunderbird in 1950. You can tell that it is a 1950-later 650, or a 1951-later 500 by the large style rods with the rod bolts located in the rod itself, instead of the cap.

Don't know where you can find a high res version, as it would have never been printed very large, but here are some better ones. The first is a straight pull from the 1950 brochure, the second is a quick cleanup to remove the background stuff.





Should be a cool tattoo. Post a pic when you get it done.

I think I do still have that 1950 brochure, and could scan that part in at a higher resolution. Don't know that it will get you much though, as that will mostly magnify the flaws in the print itself, not give you much more detail. When I scanned in all of my brochures, I did them so that they will represent the original size. I'll try to get a chance to do that soon. If you don't see a post in a few days, PM me about it.
