The designated springer ID thread

Talked to the guys who now run dick Allen's shop and own his original bikes here in SoCal, they say it's not one of theirs. Guy said it's definitely from the 70's but not a 100% dick Allen original. Basically said it could be several parts from different front ends put together. But if you guys can give me any more info I would appreciate it.

And who are they? Dick Allen is long gone, and nobody took over his shop. Plenty of people ripped off his parts, though. There was a cobbled together frame and parts that claimed to be the original 'Locomotion' bike, with zero proof, on ebay earlier this year.

If it's not Dick allen it's sugar bear, but the inline says dick allen. I'm 100% in agreement with Zeeman. They don't know what they're talking about.

Well from what I can tell it seems like a dick Allen possibly some sugar bear rockers or some swapped parts. The rear legs are welded to the tree so there's been some work done to it at some point. But regardless I'm just trying to get some idea of what it is and what it's possibly worth.

I sold my unmolested sugar bear in 2019 for 1300 dollars. May be not if it's molested but still a lovely piece.

Another friendly hint. Don't just post up here and demand/ask for someone else to do the work for you. This thread contains almost every springer ever mass produced, and several one-offs. Look through it and see if you can find anything that matches what you have, before expecting others to do that for you.

I have looked through ever thread here. Thought i had an early AEE but after messaging a previous AEE employee he seems to think it’s not. I’ve been searching everywhere and can not find a match

1/2 the problem getting an ID to an old Springer was that everyone & his uncle were building them back in the 60's & 70's, some were great quality & at times better than you could buy in chop shops, & then there were the ones made with a chainsaw & a hammer in an unlit cellar, that have since passed on to the Razor factory,...
your springers look well made overall but not a fan of the rockers, but they seem period & worth saving for a build.

Sorry to be late but in reply to thread #692 in reference to the possible Dick Allen Springer it does have most of the hallmarks of his secondary design after he quit just narrowing and extending stock forks but the lower tree is a little different than typical so this must be a very old set or built by somebody who used his parts. Dick did sell individual springer parts and several of the shops who did his welding built forks for their own bikes. The SS number is a Calif number. It is possible to trace that back to a person if you are curious.

Or it’s done with radius rods? I really have no idea. Never seen either. Am I being ghosted for doing something stupid or what?
