You probably know this, but it's just a slightly modified wassell peanut in aluminum. You could make that same tank in mild steel for less than $100.

I do like polished aluminum, though.

Am I crazy to be love with this tank? Even at that price I find myself drawn to it. Someone send me one for Christmas or Hannuka (I'm quarter Jew).

Edit--go to gas tank...janky ass website won't let me link to the direct page.

They added those goofy mounting tabs on each side of the tunnel, modified it for a single petcock on one side, and switched the gas tank cap and bung from british style to a bayonet style gas cap. That's it. It otherwise looks exactly like a high tunnel wassell peanut.

Can anyone tell how it has been modified? Sectioned down the center?

Of course.

I suppose you could get a real one on eBay like I did, if you were brave enough to take on the Japanese chopper part snipers.
My sporty tank is from Taiwan and it's got more leaks than well.....something that leaks alot. TB, I know you have a plethoria of cool shit...send me a tank.

Raw aluminum tanks give me a stiffy, but the $499.95 price causes instant flaccidity.

If you don't mind waiting 20 weeks, paying for shipping from Scotland, and can get over the fact that one U.S. dollar will buy you .58 of a British pound, then go check out the tanks at:
http://www.thetankshop.com/

Someday when I have money to burn, I'll have them make me a pair of replica WR tanks in aluminum for my 45.

btw, I have two small ones like Jovial Prankster's pic ..

tho, high tunnel I cant imagine them holding even 2 gal ..

one is brand-nos, one used w/ a few minor dents .. one is wassell (takes Brit cap), other allegedly takes some sort of older jap cap ..

mind is toast, cant remember which is what but will get some pix up of them too, both for sale, both old enough to surely be non-taiwan ..

but for now I will continue in this thread ..

strictly to inflict pleasure upon polock Joe ..

I like that tank a lot. I seem to recall ones like it on Brit or European dirtbikes, no? I'm surprised by how well it works on the knuckle. I tried really, really hard to make a Yamaha XT500 aluminum tank work on an XS650. Didn't work at all and looked kinda retarded. Now who's got a pair of aluminum fatbobs? Can I get a steel pair coated in some aluminum coating and then polished? Kinda like aluminized exhaust? Will that work?[

and while not tecnically "mounted" ..

well we can still have our special dreams, wot ??

I'll find a slim sturdy young Brit to mount her yet tho ..
