Wow, now that's an ugly motor. "1 of only 32 running Super Vees in the country" doesn't say much for them since there are way more than 32 of them in the country and only 32 of them run (if that). That's like selling a Yugo and saying its 1 of only 32 running Yugos in the country, well yeah it probably is 1 of 32 running Yugos in the US, but there are tens of thousands of them that don't run. Not a great sales pitch.
What a mess. Another bad solution for a non-problem. And ugly, too.
Allan Lowson , author of "Tinker Tales" in Back St Heroes mag has one he claims he rides regularly !

Not sure it was a bad concept for the time.
At the time the Supervee was conceived, the cost of H-D engine parts was huge compared to small block Chevy parts. Plus, the H-D tapered shaft crankshaft assembly is not something the average wrench can put together properly, plus it requires some special tools.
The plain bearing SBC on the other hand, is stone simple by comparison. And at that time, 92 inches was a lot.
It was an attempt to manufacture a large displacement V-twin that was simple, had few parts, was easy to maintain and rebuild.
Not a bad concept.
It failed, I think, because (1) it retained the 90 degree vee angle of the SBC, which was visually unacceptable to its intended market and (2) the parts quality/engineering fell short.
Not to take this thread too far afield, but there's a new company getting started
with a concept of using a chunk of a V8: Motus.
It doesn't use (asaik) any SBC parts, but it's interesting:

If you want to sell this so called piece of shit call me 419-290-8687
I saw one last month at the Webster swap meet. First time i've seen one & thought it was pretty cool. Who would know its a POS !!! I yhink he was asking 15 - 2K for it & i don't think it sold. It was compleet as the one in the pic. If he's there & has it still, i'll get his # on the 2nd !!!
The more I read this thread the more I want one I guess it just in me to want to fix some thing or build a bike out of parts that people say are junk or ugly or beyond repair but that's just me never did care much about other peoples opinions not about my bikes anyway that's just my 2 cents

I keep thinking the same thing every time this pops up

I have one I picked up a couple of years ago. I have the engine torn down right now it got some moisture in the back cyl not froze up but the rings was toast cleaned up with a hone.
Has roller lifters Howard billet cam roller rockers. TRW forged Pistons Childs and Albert rods. All put together with ARP hardware. Somebody put a bit of money into this eng. I need to get off of my lazy ass and get it put together. But I have my Servi and Shovel projects ahead of it.
Here are a few pictures of what I started with.

Thats a cool looking Ride you got there Sno Dawg. Do you have any history on it? What is it titled as? Looks pretty complete. I bet it is a torquey SOB.
I haven't had it running which is a good thing because there was a lot of hack work on it. Hell they took and had the coil wire to the Dizzy Grounded to the frame. The oil pump mount stud was cut off so that there was only 3 threads engaging in the bearing cap (it uses a standard Chevy oilpump setup).
It is titled as a 1990 Santee.

Google " motus american motorcycles" for a modern version of this idea!

The MST-01 is a V-4 , automobile sourced engine designed for bikes !
Was cool to find this thread and learn about the old super vee. It was a good idea when it surfaced in early 80's if it could have been made to work relliably. Getting the Harley parts you needed back then meant hours of catalog searching, long phone calls to parts houses, talks with the local bike shop and loss of big pieces of your paycheck. SBC stuff was everywhere and almost free at times.
A few years ago I saw an add in Walnecks mag advertising the casting dies and supposedly "enough parts to complete several engines" for the super vee for 10k. Mind you I may not be remembering the exact details or time period but I did see the add. Sounded to good to be true at the time but after reading this thread maybe it was priced too high? Anyway, I always thought it would be a cool bike to build.
I have a Nostalgia Motorcycles Super 82 1340 cc Shovelhead Freakin Rocket will toast all your Dynas for sure . 3/4 of you shit throwers probably would have a hard time changing your oil , bunch-O- bashers at lease these guys gave it a shot...

do an intro first please !!

before you start calling names and telling you and your bike are the best :rolleyes:
wow....a bagger AND a shit engine....sweeeet. What would be the purpose of these engines? I mean; a crate Evo is so cheap, runs great, why spend the time and $$ to build a giant, ugly engine that is shit?? dont get it....
People say the same thing about taking a perfectly good Triumph T120, and fucking it up with a hardtail and springer.
I think the Super Vee is a cool idea but flawed. A big pat on the back to anybody who can make one run and somewhat reliable.
My best friend got a super V dialed and running like a dream. He'll tell you they are crap but only from a design flaw perspective. If anyone owns a V now and would like to talk to him about getting one to run I'll give you his number. What I will tell you is this. HE GOT IT TO RUN WITH ALMOST NO INFORMATION. Only his knowledge of machines. If you're not a good mechanic to start with. Just walk away. There is little info to be gleaned from the net on these things so once you get one you are pretty much on your own. There are several generations of them and that makes matters worse. I would like to see more posts from owners of V's that have success with machines. If it has wheels and you can chop it I want to see it!
