My hat is off to the guys trying to iron out the bugs and making one of these engines roadworthy. I've turned wrenches all my life and I can appreciate the fascination and challenge of making one of these machines go down the road. Its a neat piece of american history, albeit a small time period. Keep after it guys, you've got my respect. Good Luck!
I just bought the last kit in the whole world. Its on my photobucket site

I don't anticipate any real issues. I believe the oil leaks are based on the use if the stock GM oil pump. It needs to be underdriven (not that easy) or replaced with a correct-sized pump

Hey Doc"
If you need any advise to work out the bugs like cyl liners ing, torque heads, etc let me know . check out myspace twharley
The Liquid -cool H-D motors has been around for a long time..In the 30s and 40s miget racers use Kuncks in there race cars,,, R&R Cycle ( Bob Greoge) made them for the Pans and Shovels...
Speaking of Bob George does anybody have a location for him?
Dr. Harms-

Glad to see photos of one and its individual componenets. Weren't you building a diesel bike with a brit frame and transmission years ago?

EDIT - nevermind. I just looked at your intro post and link to photos. Your Photobucket pics are amazing.

Im not sure thats the adjective I would apply...but my Confederates are amazing
The above does not know the difference between a gen 1 and a gen 2 . he lists a gen 1 as a gen 2 in ebay, and tells me i dont know what im talking about. I own a gen-1. just another wannabe trying to make money
Hm. Seems we've found the other problem with SuperVees...misrepresentation.
Interesting thread.

I'm one of those guys who falls asleep designing engines, and the idea behind the SuperVee did capture my imagination - for a while.

Ed Cole did a great job designing the original smallblock chevy - but:

1) It was designed from the get-go as a liquid cooled engine
2) lubrication, cooling, accessory drive, valvetrain etc - all need to be re-engineered to accomodate a v-twin.

in the end, I came up with the following parts common to both a SuperVee and a SBC:

Connecting rods
piston rings
piston pins
valve springs
valve keepers
rockers
valves
valve guides
timing chain (overkill for four lobes)
timing chain cover

Since the SBC hasn't been produced by GM since '96, the whole point is rendered moot. If you're gonna build an engine - why not scratchbuild and make it to whatever spec suited your fancy? A large-displacement, air cooled, low revving V-twin with an exposed valvetrain would be a neat thing to see - and not all that difficult to fabricate in the age of waterjets and CNC machining centers.

Looks Just Like The Gen One I Have In The Shop, differant Intake Though.
The intake can be flipflopped on a gen-1 engine. this cannot be done on a gen-2 ,or gen-3. engine in other words you can have your carb on the right or left side of the engine . nostalga flipped the intake on there drag bike that they featured in there mag.
Ya Know Your Right You Can Flip It.i Did Not See That. Thanks Thats Pretty Cool,

I think the early ones the front and rear head were the same.
Later ones the front and rear had their own castings.
