Suicide clutch tips?

6391 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  chucky p
Gonna run a jockey shift / suicide clutch on a flyrite rigid frame. I've got a ratchet top 4 speed.

Now for the question - I was thinking of running a small rod from the pedal to the clutch arm, since the clutch will pull the pedal back. Then I thought to run a modified cable setup since the clearance between the tank and the tranny is somewhat tight. Could I do both and see how each works? Yep. But I'd like to finish the friggin' thing and I get about 2 hours a week to work on it, so any help / suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If I don't hear anything, no hard feelings, you'll all still get pictures of the completed bike.:D

How much room is between the tank and tranny? is it a round oil tank or a rap around stock(ish) looking one?

It's the stock one for aluminum primary? - the one with big clearance for the arm itself. The clearance I'm concenrned about is that between the ratchet and the downtube / oil bag mount. THere's probably an inch and a half.
What about on the other side between the trans and rear fender?
Thank you for your interest, Yard Man.

Plenty of space since it's a kickstart.

I'm leaning toward a modified cable setup. I'm just going to cut up a stock clutch cable and take it from there. If it works like shit, I'll just go with the rod.

Any thoughts out there?
If it works do it. My trans only has provisions for a rod because of how old it is (plus i like the way it looks compared to a cable under the frame) but if the cable works better then do it.

Well, ordered a rod yesterday, so I'll have both that and a cable littering my shop floor.

Thanks again for your help.
