Stuck Primary

So this one is gonna take a little bit to explain, I apologize. I have a 1960 xlch, I am currently reassembling the clutch and primary, when I took it off everything was working fine, now that I'm putting it back on, not so much. My problem is when I attach the front sprocket and clutch hub with the primary chain and bolt it all in I can not move the chain, its as if its locked, can't get the pistons to budge. When the chain is off, the front sprocket moves easily with a wrench moving the pistons. The clutch hub spins freely also when chain is off. I also can not use the kickstart to turn it over. The engine is on my bench in basement, not connected, no sparkplugs. What could be causing this to lock up? Thanks.

Swap the upper & lower chain shoe bolts.

One is longer and if installed in wrong hole it goes thru and touches the flywheel thus locking the engine up.
I'll try that, don't think its it though. Pistons move free without the chain on, although I haven't tried a full revolution, maybe. thanks.
When you loosen the shoe bolts to get the chain off, your flywheels free up dude.

Haven't had to touch the shoe bolts to get the chain off. It's all mounted behind the chain assembly so they have been undisturbed this whole time, I'll still give it a shot though.

I concur...
