Well, I asked about this over on the Hamb, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask here too.

Anyone know anything about Dirty Joes Plating? Looks like it's the old Show & Go. Did Rick Fairless sell out? Who is Dirty Joe?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I hadnt heard he sold show and go, but show and go does some real shitty work!!!

We had them do chrome on 7 bikes, 80% went back to them to redo, and after that, I ended up sending it elswhere to be redone. This was about a year ago.

I will never ever use them again.

Jason,I figure that's the reason for the name change and the reason I'm trying to find out if there's been a change in ownership. If someone new has the place, I might give them a shot. If it's the same bunch with a new name, then I'll probably put my parts on the big brown truck and send them to Superior or Speed and Sport in Houston. It's a bad deal when sending your chrome work off is a crap shoot. I guess it's the same with powdercoating and upholstery, when you don't know the folks you are dealing with.Larry T
Larry, I'm local, and can call a freind of mine who might be able to get you some answers. Look for a post on this tommorrow. I'll see what I can find out.
Nothing concrete, but Rick's financial partner is apparently named Joe. That's why alot of the customs over at Rick's say Joe T on them. Pretty coincidental huh? Can't say for sure, but looks like the smoke and mirrors thing that you mentioned.

My friend uses Advanced Plating over by Billy Bob's and says he hasn't had any problems there. Maybe that might help, if you want to keep your palting needs local.

Sorry I couldn't find out something more solid. I tried.
I'm currently waiting on parts to come back from these ding-a-lings (Dirty Joe's). It's been one excuse after another. Their customer service ain't worth a crap.

I got a quote from these guys a month ago to re-chrome my Triumph fork sliders and they wanted about $260. The other places I called only charged around $90 bucks.

Cory,
How long have your parts been there? I might wait and see what you think when you finally get them back.

I talked to someone at Dirty Joes and he said that Show & Go had shut down, and they had bought the building. Said they had cleaned the tanks and fixed everything up. The only problem I have with that is that they have Show & Go's old phone number. Their prices were in line with everyone elses.

I got a real good feeling about Advanced. They talked hotrods a little bit when I called them. Only problem there is 8 to 10 week turn around.

I still don't know if I'll try Dirty Joes, Advanced Plating, or Speed & Sport in Houston. I might wait for a little more feedback.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but with all the Texas people chiming in here, thought I would ask ya'll who you use for powdercoating. Gettin closer to needing that done.

Sammich,
I was kinda suprised when I stated checking on powdercoating. Seems like the prices have doubled in the last 5 years. I used to get frames done for $125.00-$175, now I'm getting quotes of $250.00-$400.00 for a frame. You might check with TopCoat in Kennedale, they look good. The cheapest quote I got was frome Arrowhead Powdercoating in Wichita Falls. I'll probably use them, because they are closer to being local to me than any of the others and I think powdercoating is a pretty standard process, not as much room for screwups as painting or chrome work.

They've been there 3 weeks so far, and are supposed to be ready today...so we'll see. It's only a kickstand, brake lever, and a little bracket.
I friend told me about this shop here in Dallas called Pauls powdercoating. He got a frame done in that transparant candy red powdercoat for like 175. He told me abotu it and I was like BULLSHIT. I havent called them but will be getting in touch with them soon about some BMX frames and what not I need done..

To answer you're original question yes rick sold out.
The new Guy is a freind of the original owner and he is supposed to be doing nicer work. (I havent seen any of his work,so I can't comment).
