I'm trying to come up with a cafe style pan. I thought i'd cut up a gas tank for the rear bubble and then weld it to a flat pan. I dont know what guage steel to use and if I should frame it with some kind of round or square tubing. All my triumph seat pans are just big thick steel with pressed in reliefs. It might be cheaper to buy a fiberglass repro but they dont seem to be very durable.

I made one in fiberglass and covered it in leather. Easy project and for under $60. It's on my daily rider and no problems with cracking so far. I laid the glass up right on the frame which was about a 45 minute project...leather took a lot longer.
