Yet another newbie question...

What are the advantages or disadvantages of single cylinder engines?

Advantage, they have fewer moving parts. Disadvantage, they move your parts down the road at a greatly reduced velocity. =)

Singles sound awesome, because they have that accentuated lope sound. Tend to be more torque oriented, generally it can be said more reliable. Speed MAY be hindered but not always the case. There are plenty of historic examples to prove to the contrary of slow.

Disadvantage is a lot of people don't like the looks because sometimes singles look miniscule and lost.

Singles are cool because they are not a twin, triple, or four. Who cares what bigger is better fans say....most of them are just following the crowd.

Singles in the herd: '81 Kaw 250 (80 mpg!), '48 Royal Enfield, '35 DKW, '25 Indian Prince, '71 Ducati 450 Desmo, AJS 410 Stormer

My 600 (SRX Super Single) thumper is the best wheelie machine I've ever had.
My 441 Victor is my favorite uncontroable wheelie machine, real narrow power band but when she hits hold the fuck on, 70 tooth rear sproket helps too!
