Hi all!

I´m starting to build my swingarm shovelhead -72
to kraft tech rigid K16001 frame. i´m willing to put retro 16"s front and back but not sure about rim width. In rear i´m planning to use 5.00x16 Coker classic blackwall: http://store.cokertire.com/popular-...-16-s-coker-classic-cycle-blackwall-tire.html

Or a Coker/Beck Cycle blackwall: http://store.cokertire.com/popular-...e/500-16-coker-beck-cycle-blackwall-tire.html

So what rim width would be best choice? im wanting it to look as wide as possible, but still compatible on this frame with rear chain drive. is 16x3" rim too narrow? suggestions?

In front wheel section also want 16" rim, but a bit narrower tire, so only option seems to be 3.50x16 Firestone deluxe champion. shame that there ain´t 3.50-4.00x16 on cokertires-site on those classic blackwalls & beck cycle blackwall tires... might go 5.00x16 but dont want front look too balloon...

anyone have pics of 5.00x16 coker or beck applications front & rear WITH remark of what rim width used

A 3.50 x 16" will be small in overall height/diameter I mean.. it will look if your bike angles forward.. I would go with a 18" front wheel then.. with a 4.00 or 4.50 tire..

For the rear you can go with a 4.00 x 16" rim for that Coker 5.00 x 16 tire.. I did it a few times.. although doens't really widen the look of those tires..

Personally I'm not a fan of 16" front wheels/tires.. But I can live with this one here..

Thanks for information!

That bike on car tyres look awful!

so, if i use firestone deluxe champion 5.00x16 rear (4x16 rim)

and firestone deluxe champion 4.50x18 front (3" or 3,5" rim?)

what rim size if i use 4.00x18 firestone deluxe champion in front?

anyone has pics of these setups?

edit: found nice pic of firestone rear, thinking what size that rim is? 4x16"?

Here's 4.00 x 16" rim on the rear (with 5.00 x 16 Kenda tire)
And 2.50 x 18" rim in front with 4.00 x 18" tire..

(front rim is OEM H-D rim)

Red bike on pics is more a 5" or 5.5" wide rim..

Ok, is it better use 18"x3" rim in front if using 4.00x18 firestone deluxe champion? or will that 2,5" rim handle just fine? any pics rear of that bike?

Those original early 18" rims from Harley were actually 2.15" wide .. that's what I used here on this bike.. (with 4.00 x 18" tire)

Seems the more narrow the rim the taller the tire gets not really fatter. I had a Coker 4.00 on a 3.25 rim and it looked really tall not wide. I would go with both 5.00 on the front cause the next fattest tire is 4.50 19"or 18" don't remember exactly.

The big tire shovel that Danny posted has a real nice look to it, but my personal experiment with running a car tire (rear wheel only) on one of my shovels didn't even last a week. Looked good but handled bad. Too square of a cross section. I' ve also run the standard 130/16 bike tire on a 4.00x16 rim, it makes the tire widen out at the sidewall and also shortens up the height, the look didn't impress me. I think the vintage 16" tires look and perform the best on the 3.00x16 rims.

Regards,
Geo.

I think they are firestone blackwall car tires. Funny though - Coker's website shows an overall diameter of 26" and lists the deluxe champion 5.00 tire at 26.42". Those definitely look taller than my 5.00 firestone deluxe champs.

Wow - that's a great looking bike IMO...it's like the old Zero and then some :D

Definitely a good looking bike, but not Japanese.

2.50" is plenty for a 4.50 x 18".. (as I said, the original 18" Harley rims were only 2.15" wide)

Hey eero,
I'm running Coker/Beck 5.00-16's front and rear on my bike right now
with stock 3.00 rims.
Handles fine, looks good, but I'm lacing up a 19" for the front so when the rear tire gets worn I'll have the former front tire waiting to use.

I've never been a fan of 16's front and rear. The black Shovel a few posts down does look good, but the Knuckle in the last post is a really nice combo. Looks great all around.
