Base gasket blew the other day on my FXR. Figured since I have it apart I'll hop up the hp while I'm inside, Pistons, Cam, Valves etc.

Can anybody recommend a specific brand/tool for pulling and reinstalling the press fit wrist pins? Perhaps what brands to Avoid?

I'm hoping to avoid taking the whole engine to the machine shop. Seems everyone around here is booked up solid for the next few weeks.

harley wrist pins are not a press fit, they float in the piston and the rod.

the clips do hammer the grooves in the pistons and will raise a burr.

pack clean rags around the rods in the cases, remove all of the clips, with an exacto knife or the like remove a sliver of piston material all the way around the groove at the clip location.

after that a light tap on the end of the pin and they should slide out.

be sure to support the piston when tapping out the pin, don't side load the rod.

Get a piece of brass 1'' od , have about 1/4'' of it turned down to .794 thats to fit in the Wristpin then have about 1.25 or a little longer than the width of the rod , turnedown to match the outside of the wrist pin but no big enough to ''grab'' the rod i think .801 will work and hammer out said wristpin .
