Remote oil filter on a triumph

56590 Views 142 Replies 70 Participants Last post by  ampdesign
I've been thinking about putting a remote oil filter on my Triumph. It's a 69' T120R with a 71' head, custom oil tank with factory fittings/filter. Any thoughts or personal experience with this.
Thanks Ed

It's a good idea. Install in the return line.
Heres an aftermarket filter in a Santee custom frame w/650. The frame has about a 6" overall strech. It's installed into the return ling along with a power steering type oil cooler. Has about 20K miles on the set up and it's worked graet. It uses a standarh Harley filter, either chrome or black.

was that the Trump that you just picked up? when did ya chop that baby? looks good, thats for sure
Yep that was the one I picked up last winter..Wouldn't be right If I didn't add my own touch to it!
You can get a volkswagon dune buggy set up for about 15 to 20 bucks at Dunebuggy supply in Minnesota or Scat or any dune buggy shop for cheaper than any bike shop. But you should be aware that if your using an automotive spin on filter, usually the spring loaded bypass valve is not set up at the same pressure as a bike. usually not a problem if your doing regular oil changes.

Don't see why not. Looks good and I like the copper tubing.
Just want to vouch for Teach's kit. I used his on my build and it works great. No problem with flow using a stock oil pump.

Remote oil filter set-up.

Has anyone installed a remote oil filter system using a big old FRAM oil filter or the like? I'd seen it here and there on this board, particularly on one of Truth's bikes.
Does this system have true merit? Just for looks? How does it install?

Yep I supply Truth with those Fram oil filter set ups. They work great...you need to use a FRAM HP! or equivalent filter..those are High Performance/Flow Low restriction race filters. I have one on my 57 pan and 67 Trump..not noly does it add almost an extra quart of oil in the system it also aids in cooling greatly.

We put them on our class builds as well

Re: Remote oil filter set-up.

Run mine like the pics teach posted. primary side just a lil more verticle just in front of my sidemount lic plate.
Re: Remote oil filter set-up.

have used remote filters on last 3 builds... I like to run mine off the backside of a license plate/taillight bracket...that way, it acts as a cooler; hanging out there in the breeze, away from the pipes and engine, + the long lines to and from it adds another quart easily.....def. a good idea. Not to mention ease of filter change!! I use the SBC remote filter block from Summit Racing , its cheap; easy to mount anywhere and works well. my .02.

Nice. Do you have any part numbers or links for this equipment? I am browsing Summit but can't seem to find it here...

Re: Remote oil filter set-up.

one i use is Summit part # TRD 1028...its 12.95. Its all you need....go to the auto parts store and get whatever fittings you need,(I use 90's) some hose and clamps: DONE. Under 25 bucks total, and you'll be just like Larry. (not);)
