A while back there was a thread (can't find it with search) about re-tapping the threads on brit machines with Whitworth fasteners. A couple of my kicker plate holes are stripped. It looks like a bolt with the equivalent of about 1/4" SAE thread.
Anybody know any way to make it "close", and what tap to use?
Thanks,
Erron

It is close to 1/4". Normally drill out with 1/4" drill and rethread with 5/16" fine pitch tap. I tend to favor allen heads when reassembling, i like the look, and less worry of offend marks. On areas where the torque isn't as crucial, I have simply retapped with a 1/4" medium tap and worked fine. The Whitworth is slightly smaller than a 1/4" so the is enough material for good thread bite. But on torque crucial areas I like to get maximum thread bite.

Hope this helps some.
