I have what I think is a 74-77 sporty narrowglide
its looks to be about 4 or 6 over right now

I want to get it back down to stock length or 2 under

what is involved in shortening these tubes ?

I have heard I can send them to franks (if I do do I need to do anything to the internals ?)

does anyone know anywhere that sells a complete tube assembly that is 2 under stock length ?

thanks for any help

J&P and most vendors sell tubes in lots of lengths, buy them, a manual and a 6 pack PBR and you'll have it done quickly. If it was me id do the fork oil and seals at the same time.

Friend with lathe, shorten from the bottom, cut off, counterbore, cut snap ring groove, shorten spring spacer by like amount. +1 on seals and fluid,or maybe atf with a splash of brakefluid for the old seals.

Re: them tubes

are dime a dozen. You should be able to pick up a used set or a whole front end offa Craigslist or outta the back room of an indy shop. People always pull those off and put other, sexier front ends on.

My bike came with a narrow glide. I pulled it off, and it has never handled as well as it did with that original skinny-glide.

Sorry, traded mine off long ago.
