Why? Nothing there a little Kreem won't fix.
Just kidding, I'll be following along on this one.

will you build it to look the part using more modern methods or brazed, maybe silver soldered oem joints?

did a copy of some 1915 tanks once, had these as a pattern...
Motor vehicle Engineering Automotive design Gas Machine

and that turned into...
Tire Wheel Hood Automotive tire Motor vehicle

and then...

Hood Automotive tire Motor vehicle Automotive design Vehicle

lessons learned... don't tack weld with a mig, use a tig if welding.

these turned out close but not a perfect copy of oem...

Will be soldered.
All panels will be gas welded or "hammerwelded".
Great job already !

@Dan , what lesson did you learn on tac welding with mig?

i must first say, i am no pro at working sheet metal.
some may like and have good luck with a mig welder, not me.
what i found was the mig tack welds are harder than tig making them much more difficult to work the metal.
then there were the leaks to deal with after working hard welds.

Hey Dan
I tack with oxy acetylene and weld the same way.
Is the tank going to be bigger ?
As your using original as a buck

Hey Richbob,
You are on the ball.
I am compensating for that very fact, even the rusty buck will not fit between the frame tubes! It makes things a little hellish as alterations must be made in the radii.
I do not have the frame on a constant basis so patterns are key.
Doug
I make lots of plugs/moulds for carbon fibre components (racing yachts ) so always making reductions to allow for skin thickness
I knew you had it under control 😉
Nice
How many hours in it so far ?
