I have a 59 thunderbird (6t) which is the lower performance model, in looking to put high lift cams in it. I've been looking on theis site here,

http://http://www.johnsoncams.com/jc_t_cams.html

I like the sifton 390 cam which has a .352 of lift, i don't want to go to crazy, but I do want some more performance. Does anyone have any experience with high lift cams/knows the best ones to get? Also, the guys at ace classics London advised me to run 7.5:1 pistons, for reliability, but can not for the life of me remember what cam grind they recommended.

There's more info around too, this was just the first example for ya.
in my opinion, bigger cams (and cam timing) are just one part of building a performance engine and the cams do no real good without the other things like high compression pistons, bigger valves, better carbs.
