So who was actually making these prior to 68 ? or was everyone just running extended tubes and modified HD springers ? Was anyone offering aftermarket front ends in 1966 ?

I don't think there were any aftermarket girders or springers until later. Stock springers and girders were extended, glide front ends were extended with slugs or tubes, and Barney's had some really nice stock length and extended lower legs.

We use to extend springers with ford radius rods on the rear leg of the springer just good grade of tubing for the front leg.

I don't know of anybody making them prior to about this time period then it freaking exploded. Pretty much it was all extending HD springers.

Buchanan's Spoke and Rim in So. Cal. used to extend springers and straighten frames in that time period here on the west coast.
