Early on in my build I really started to regret buying the stock Evo, there was something about the color of the powder coating that drove me nuts and I really hated looking at the motor. I started to think about options, do I sell? just deal with it and be disappointed? or do I do something about it? I decided that before I do anything the market wasn't real strong to sell and figured I really didn't have much to lose. I removed the push rods (was installing and Andrews Cam anyway) plugged all the holes I could and went to work. I dragged the motor outside and sprayed the motor down liberally with a general paint stripper I bought at the local store, within minutes the powder started to bubble like you wouldn't believe, I gave it some time and re sprayed the areas that I missed the first time around and within probably 45 to 60 minutes I sprayed the motor down with my pressure washer (med nozzle not the jet stream). I was amazed at how easy it was and how good the raw motor looked. I instantly knew I made the right decision and knew what I was going to do next. I had a wire brush wheel that I adapted to my Makita grinder. After I used my lawn blower to dry the motor off I sprayed the motor down with WD-40 and used the brush to lightly brush the aluminum. Note: this is fucking dangerous and you have to be careful go with the rotation of the grinder, wear heavy gloves like welding gloves, eye protection and be fucking careful. The first time around I got a nice deep cut down to the white meat! I included some pics of the final product which for now I'm pleased with.

No need to flame on me as yes I honestly forgot, I read a recent thread about cleaning and polishing aluminum and thought this may help.-"Not to mention the inherent value of using the damn enter key between pictures." The pics are for illustration, you guys are pro's with shops so you probably don't need this kind of novice thread anyway. As "senior" members you can go ahead and delete the thread.

you could at least show pix of the white meat,I am an idiot as well,and have the 'same wire wheel makita set-up the wires break off and stick in you,and you're clothing ,they definitely were not designed for 10,000 rpm but it works so well.make sure you have good eye protection cause those wires can blind you

No flaming here, just reminding...woulda just been better to tag the pic of the bike on your old thread. Looks like it's coming together well too BTW.

Dunno about the pro part either but I think I pretend well enough haha.

Nice work and the bike is looking good!

On side note, it was mentioned about the pics and hitting enter between each. Yes Dragon was one for helping everyone out with stuff like this and it always stuck for me. The point is that when you post pictures, hit enter between each img tag you enter in your post. Use the preview button and you will see them vertically instead of horizontally. It makes for a much easier to read post!

....:D....

Ya know...I should have left the dang sticker on ....

On that model of the Buell's....Can't see the heads unless you was standing on your own head....;)

And to think about those S&S Billet Rocker cover's I installed that can't be seen was more for the .550 lift cams having the room to swing the arms...:eek:..

=============================================

On the Poor Mans Polish job....It sure looks good....

I'm doing a set of jugs and heads just on the edge of the fins...
Guessing that about a Hundred Dollar of belts will be burnt up before the finish is where I want it to be...

Then the tape up on the fins will go down for a trip though the Powder Coat ovens...

Alot of time and effort for this type of looks....
