oil leaking

Just as a first guess, sounds like to much oil in the primary, for the oil leak. The head gasket is another thing altogether. Could be cracked head/cylinder, bad mating surfaces, or clogged oil drain passages.

the primary oil is where it should be. its motor oil that is coming out of that vent tube. tomorrow im gonna check the ball valve in the oil pump. i have a feeling that oil is sitting in the crankcase that isnt getting circulated and with the added pressure in there its finding whatever way it can to get out.

Do you mean the vent tube under the gene? If so, that is classic wet-sumping, but should not be primary fluid. If leaking back by the starter, could be a abraded oil line.

Wet-sump = check ball issue in oil pump (most cases). Pull the crankcase drain plug and see what comes out. Be careful...strips easily.

The ONLY way for the primary/trans to have that much pressure in it to push oil out the trans vent is...
From the motor.....
Be it the motor shaft seal has gave up the ghost...OR....

Oil is building up in the lower end....As you said....But if this was the case...You would also be seeing oil coming out the vent at the gen...

I wonder....
On that year model the cam cover has a one way check valve pressed into the cam cover....
My wonder is what would happen if for some reason that would not allow pressure to escape....???

there is some oil coming out of the gen vent also, but not nearly as much as the trans vent. there is a lot of pressure coming out of the gen vent, seems like too much pressure to me...but then again i dont remember what it was like last fall and i dont now anybody around here with an ironhead to make a comparison...

Do you have a leak-down tester...??

Best to take that out of the equation...first off.

This is going nowhere, with the details we have to work with. First, we need to know if oil is coming from under the starter, or the generator. Then, a year model, and type of bike, then maybe some photos. If it is motor oil, it could be coming from anywhere that it can seep. If it is a vent line, it could be coming from anywhere it can seep. There are also some year models, that have a vent tube on top of the cam cover, coming out of the "generator mounting flange", and it runs back(originally to the air box) and some people run them to ground, or a vent filter. If this vent is on your bike, and the vent is ran to the trans area, it could be wet sumping and pumping to rear of motor. But all of this is weak guessing, due to the lack of info. Take some photos of the motor, and the leaking areas, list them "A" and "B", then describe the photos. Then, we can make a better diagnosis.

I'd go with Dragstew's advice first as well.
