I do not know what book you are reading but best hit the books...I know for a fact Thruxton was released in the late 50's here's a link of a 62' I don't have time to prove a point to you but I am most assured that Velo was way before Triumph as far as the Thruxton name was...Cheers..

I've seen that someone makes a higher set of clip-ons,like 1 1/2 inches taller. My beemer R90S is not too cramped, but its less of a drop. I've thought of at least riding a Thruxton before I decide which Triumph to buy.

i test rode that rocket 3. not too wild about the looks of it but GODDAMN that was the most brutally powerful & aggressive sounding bike Ive ever ridden. i loved the fact (since the crank was parallel to the bike) that when you revved it, the whole bike torqued to the side like a big ol muscle car. i seriously laughed like a little school girl the entire half hour i rode it. my face hurt from smiling so much. that fucker pulled wheelies easier than my speed triple!

the guy i work with rides a rocket that bike is wild. Its power is incredible. You can start it in 1st without using the throttle... Just let go of clutch and she rumbles off.

I got an 05 Thruxton I use as a commuter bike since im in-between Boston, Providence, and New Bedford almost daily. It's badass!

If you get one, remove the cali emissions right away. Change the pipes, and remove the airbox and put some K&N's on. You wont have any gripes with power.

I dont have much issue with the riding position in the city or on the highway... got used to it pretty quick. Feels like a caddillac compared to a rigid 60's bike!

No love yet. My pop is getting a guy to do it for free, and it's taking him a while to get to it. I'm not in a hurry, till that frame is sitting in the garage with a big motor-shaped hole in the middle.

The fact of the matter is the name came from a style race bike, named after the airfield where the bikes would race. Velo never really took the name on as an "official" model name, but factory appeared in 1965. Triumph used the name in 1964. They were both popular brands to race there, and it still never really came to signify an actual model, but more a race packaged model. So the fact is both really have a rightful claim to the name. ONLY, I seem to think only one still exists. :)

I challenge you to tell a serious Brit collector that his '64 Thruxton outfitted Triumpyh, is a copycat.
