I ride my '05 every day of the week and love it. There are lots of mods available for squeezing HPs out of it. My dealer also offers a big bore kit - I think it takes it up to 950cc? I may be off.
I'm 6'2" and the stock riding position suits me fine - I've ridden some looong stretches on it. Just get rid of the ugly rear fender, put some bar-end mirrors on there and you're set.
