Hi I am new to the forum and new to Harleys. WHile i have ridden large rice burners for years I am new at big twins. I bought a 78 Superglide shovel head 1200 a few weeks back.

I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I was out riding my shovel and it died. just like it ran out of gas. But there was plenty of gas and the petcock was on. however, the cylinder head gasket had some oil running out of it. The electric start will turn the motor over and there are no broken mechanical sounds, it still wont start. Could the head gaskets keep it from running?

Yes it can. Tell us a bit about yourself, and in the future, feel free to post questions like this on the main board.

Your first course of action should probably include a compression test.
