I'm building a XS650 with a rigid frame and I will eventually need a title and plates. The bike has no numbers on the frame. What the hell do I do? I live in South Bend, IN if that helps.

Wow... ...I think I've seen that before.

Do you still have that straight axle kit?
Dig around your local DMV web site. In CA there is a consumer liason office that will answer these kinds of questions (w/out the standard curtness) and get you started--I found out about them through a local antique parts house. I've heard rumors about changes in "special construction" emissons rules for '07, but don't who all this effects--maybe somebody can shed some more light on this though.
The frame numbers on my 650 are stamped in the neck of the bike - very lightly and hard to find/read, and are about 3/16" high. They could easily be ground off by previous owners re-doing the frame paint. I got lucky they matched the motor numbers.

How old is the bike? I titled my '66 CL160 through sleight of hand with Broadway Title (http://www.broadwaytitle.com). They register and title the bike in Alabama, after you've 'sold' them the bike, and then mail a certificate of title, a bill of sale, and all of the paperwork to title the bike in your state. The process took around three months and ran $100. The only drawback is that a few states don't allow the process and there's an age restriction on the vehicle being titled (pre-'74, if I remember correctly).
Hey that's a good lookin tank. Good luck getting a title.
Does the bike have good frame numbers unaltered?Has the bike been plated in the last ten years? If these are answered yes to number one and no to number two.I can coach you how to get a title through the Indiana bmv legally and realitively easy for about a Hundo25.
If you want pm me your number and I will call ya and tell ya how its done but probl be the first of the week before I can call gonna be pretty busy this weekend. You really need to apply for your title before you invest to much time and money in the project incase you have to make changes.

The title services IMHO our workin on the verge of being illegal and its about a three month wait.I know its advertised as faster but I know a few who have went that way and it has been a hurry up and wait kinda deal.If done right thru the bmv you should have your title and plates in about 3 weeks.

If you live in Indiana there is a very easy way and legal I repeat legal way to get a title.
