Rather than start a new thread (after using the search function) I piggybacked on an old wheel ID thread. That thread got closed but I'm not exactly sure why (maybe the Honda wheel earlier in the thread) I haven't received a response from mods yet but really not expecting one, so if this is outside the scope of JJ I apologize, but can't figure out why.

The rim is a 19" stamped with "JONES" & "MADE IN ENGLAND". I bought a pallet of mid 60's British wheels at an auction a while back, most of which I sold on here for 1/3 the price eBay would fetch so I'm just asking for a little help on this one so I can order some brake pads before gypsy run... any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You could send them off to Vintage Brake in California or find a local shop that re-lines brake shoes. The ones I have had done they bond lining on that is thicker than you need so you can shim the shoes out 0.010-0.020" and turn everything down to match the ID of the drum. Preferably you turn the drum before you cut the shoes to get the best performance. The local shop here used material normally used on towmotors and it worked great on my /2 BMW.

Yup, it's late Ariel. It's too pretty to be from one of the big manufacturers. It looks like a late 50's Square Four brake to me. Maybe a from a Huntmaster as well.

It's a brake cable with a cable guide from a clutch cable I had laying around. Seemed to fit nice.

Thanks man! I've looked up Ariel drums before but didn't see any like mine, this time I dug a little deeper because it was suggested here and another forum.

Guess it's from a 1958 Ariel Square Four from what I can tell.

We must have posted the same time here. I agree, it is kinda pretty. If my bike was a little shinier, this probably have polished up pretty nice.

You ought to match the angle of your cable and brake cam lever to the Square 4 pic, it'll work better. Also, is that a solderless cable end? Better get a soldered end to avoid the risk of that little bolt slipping on the inner cable when you really need it.
