OEM mount is @ 170 mm...

My plan is to move the shocks to 110 mm...

Is that to much??? any thoughts..

I measured the length of the shock mount that hung over the edge of the swingarm and spun the balance round. Then I drilled thru the center of the swingarm directly below the original location and welded it in. It dropped the ass of the bike 3 inches without fucking up the geometry. The further you move those mounts back, the less they absorb. And yeah you could buy new shorter shocks but new shocks are initially stiff and give a hard ride. And im poor, $300 shocks ain't happening.

Any idea on the bike's weight? It's about as stripped down as it can be. How's it handle/ride?
I have no ide, heavy is all i can say!

well its not that bad, but im used to the hinckley Triumph that feels light as a moped so.....

its a quite stiff ride but turns easy and feels great at 110km/h... love the torque!
easy to handle at low speeds to!

from bikez.com... this is the 1980, 80". they didn have the sheet for the -79, 80"

im a poor n cheap bastard.. and it was quicker to move the shock mounts istead of ordering them and wait 2 weeks....

do you have a pic of your bike?

Looks good Knallert,new bars are a big improvement. Hows the other bike project coming?

the Triumph is "on hold".... she looks pretty sad standing in the garage with just the frame, motor and front end... some day, some day my love!

Stealing parts from the Hinckley project to this bike... handlebar, levers, throttle, wires and rear wheel...

still alot of stuff that has to be done.... piece by piece...

Dr. Benway: i only have a glass bathroom scale, dont think its a good idea..
have to get some goats for the roof...
hard work to lift the lawn mower up there...

Ok...

had to do something with the wires that came out of the handlebar..
I really get stressed when its time for rewiring..

phew, the bike started after i was done!

wires will go through a diet this winter, so this is just the start......

with no blinkers i could get rid of the badlander box... horn (didnt work)
and i cut the starter system away to... relay and fuse (start button on solenoid)



Made a little box and mounted it were the coil goes OEM... (1.5mm thick)
the 3 way switch is for half/full light
and the little one is the "kill switch".. not the best place but i dont want it on my handlebar!



Also got the seat welded in place...



and a close up on the box...


next is the rear fender.............

Thanks juspassi...Its nice to have a little different house from all the others. it makes me "special" Lol :)

OEM front brakes (1 pot) is a piece of shit enginering!!

My -69 triumph had better brakes than this scoot!

so here is what i started working on today...

nothing much has happened today.. nice weather so i have been riding!



My baggy skateboard jeans got "stuck" in the belt... gah! that was scary!







Its gonna rain tomorrow and a few days so now i can get that rear fender mounted... if all goes well :)

I 'm usually not much for the look of a swing arm bike but i have to say this is one of the coolest i have ever seen! You have definitely taken it in to a whole new direction and its a good one!

I have to agree with you on the swingarm argument...

but the more i look at swingarm bikes (built right) the more i like them..

Fix it time!

Tonight i started tearing down my bike because my engine needs some love!
AND I got to do something about the yellow on the bike.. jugs frame etc!

a Q.. shouldnt a 1979 fxs have rubberband fitting to the carb inlet?
my bike have O-rings... (or is it the other way around)



here is a side shot of the engine... dont you just love yellow!

(notice the broken front spark plug! never happend before)



and I really have to clean up the oilpump to...
dont need every connection on it since i have the 3" open belt...
any ideas on that?



well, thats what i had time for tonight..

Tommorrow im gonna borrow a bigger air compressor so i can lossen the big fucking bolt on the front belt pulley.... tryed every trick i had... didnt come loose..

more to come guys, and i hope you are doing well in your own garage :)
