Modify forks lower legs

Hi,
I'm currently shaving a set of 35mm lower and I'm thinking about filling the hole where you drain your fork oil...
I know it's alloy foundry, so It'll be TIG welded.
My question is, does anybody here have done it before?
Is there some problems (or advantages) that appears after doin' that beside the fact that you must dismantle your forks to bleed your oil after that?

I personally have never met a person who has ever changed their fork oil using the drain screws. I've changed the oil by taking them apart or dropping them and dumping it but I've never used the screw drains.

I'd get rid of them if you don't use them.
yes, that's why I don't see the point to keep those screws...
did you have the experience of filling some of those holes?

I've never filled any of mine and I never take the screws out because I don't want to risk stripping them. If you're going to take the time to shave them, I'd have them welded up. I can't weld aluminum so I'd have to have someone do it for me but I don't see where it would be a problem as long as the weld wouldn't come into contact with anything inside the lower leg.

I've seen them eliminated, but I've never done it personally.
First time I tried to drain my forks...one leg drained using the screw. Other leg would not drain and the screw was OUT, had to turn it upside down. lol. I am no expert, but seems like filling them in with weld would be fine.
I did the same thing on a set of 39mm. Had a guy weld up the holes and then shaved them on my lathe. No problems, just got to get them really clean to weld, I drilled out the threads to make it easier to clean the area.
You may even try leaving the bolt in, cutting the head off, weld in place like a plug and finish as needed.
drill a hole and press fit a alu rod... done?!?

perhapes its better to weld it.....

cheers

Except for the fact that the screws are made of steel and the fork lowers are made of aluminum. Try welding those together and you'll end up with a big ugly mess, and some decent spatter in your face.

Hehe... I've never taken a fork out of a tree unless the seals were toast. Matter o' fact, I've had a lot of miles on the same seals just from changing fluid every season. I've never stripped one of those drain screws; I never even thought to worry about stripping the aluminum. Stupid is as stupid does, right?

Ive done it before just clean the inside of the lowers out good I run them through the parts washer them the dishwasher
weld them closed and leave some build up of weld to shave down on the lathe
I do it on most of the lowers that I shave down
Ok guys thank you for your opinion, I'll weld those holes !
I'll tell you if I find any problem after that, but I doubt it...
