Hey all, putting stuff back together and have a question or two. Not sure I got the new supernut on tight enough because the unmarked socket on my torque wrench (think is a wheel bearing socket for a truck) got it pretty snug, and then started rounding the corners off. Finished with 1 7/8 end wrench. Since the new nut came with an oring on back, it sits away from the sprocket further than the old one did, but the sprocket doesn't look like it is sliding in and out on the main gear. Other than a visual, I figured my checking the drive gear end play could tell me something.
Guess my main question is, does sprocket locknut tightness affect main drive gear end play? I checked (see photo for my setup), and I was seeing .018-.020 play, while my book says it should be .002-.013. I'm assuming the sprocket has the spacer snug against the main gear, and that any play I'm seeing is the main gear on the mainshaft? Or is it possible I didn't get the nut tight enough? (although I've read a lot of posts warning about overtightened supernuts).
Thanks for any advice (other than that supernuts suck, as I have already pored through pages of those debates, and am not stirring that pot, lol)
