I've been contemplating doing it and wondering myself. I think if water got in there it might make them less effective but I could be wrong. Lately I've seen a few people's brake plates brake during normal uses. It seems like they might not be the strongest brake plates ever made, and a bunch of holes in it wouldn't help that. Are you running a front brake?

Oh, for me that would make a big difference. I'm running a spool up front so if my rear brake goes out I'm screwed. Although if it breaks and locks up, front brakes will only do so much.
