repainting the bike and I'm thinkin about either trimming the stock front fender down or not running one at all. I will be running a smoothed, dechromes hinged rear and flat side fat bob's.

Here's what we did back-in-the-day, strip the chrome off the front fender, remove the rear fender. turn the front fender around, line it up on the rear, trim as you like, and install on the rear, Try it!! you have nothing to lose if the bike is already apart. makes for a really good looking rear fender( My Opinion ).

Are you still going to run the 16" on the front? The fender bracing/mounting brackets are going to get in the way of a big trim job. What about an aftermarket flat fender? With the big rear fender and fat bobs, to small a fender or no fender can throw the whole look of the bike.
What do you mean, back in the day?? My bike in winter dress.
