Can the K model front brake drum backing plate ( the one that looks like a glide backing plate ) be used on teh later Sportster drum wheel ?

Sure, up to 63 XL 1/2 drum hub/brake. The 64 up full drum/brake are a different shoe width etc.

Actually, a K backing plate only fits the K model with its alloy shoes.

Modified for the KH and later Sporty to fit steel shoes. All KH and Sporty can interchange.

The K only back plate has the housing for the actuating cam protuding on the inside.
