I suspect it mostly had to do with budget issues. Buy a couple beater bikes, who cares what model, and build your dragster. Physical differences and aesthetics would have nothing to do with it, just cost. When Knuckles and Pans sold for $100 bucks anything was possible!

pretty sure that was jim lienwebers machine.could be mistaken for tom sifton but if i recall it was lienwebers. when asked about the diff motors he was like "pans just came out they where brand new,its not like you could get one at the junkyard" { like a knuckle} think the article was in the horse a while back. i spoke to him the other day, still answers the phone at his company and likes to talk hot rod harleys. the last of a small group of homegrown geniuses for sure.
