Is it necesary? motor case question

That red paint you see on the inside of old H-D cases.
whats it do?
Should i put some on my cases ?
Where do i get it?
Do i just paint it on?

that's how they kept the oil from seeping through the porous engine case castings.
So i assume its still necesary.
Is there any special method of applying it or just paint it on.

Eastwood sells it it is an insulating paint used on electric motor armatures.
It is called "Glyptol" and it is used for sealing pourous cases and also for oil run off-it is avail through eastwood-a quart was $40.00 and an aerosol can was $40.00 (u figure out which is better). It is brushed on and then baked in an oven to cure. Works pissa-i even did my trans case with it. Good stuff!-Cheif
