A few way to go to get there....

A speedo drive on the front wheel...

VDO and others makes a drive (Hall Effects, Pick-Up) that counts the teeth on the sprocket...

A GPS would also be a way....

i like the speedo driven front wheel but my problem is finding a speedo that i like the looks of everything new and billet sucks so ill probally be hitting up swap meets and buggin the older guys i know to let me raid their parts pile
run a 70's brit speedo unit on the front wheel, or the one that uses magnets around the rim that drive the pick-up unit that is at the side of the forks?
thats an idea too matt im just kicking round ideas tryin to learn harleys i know cbs and kzs from the 70s pretty well but learning alot about harleys as i go so far i dig it
Yea those mini speedo kits are a fairly clean and nice mounting. most run off front wheel speedo drive. most likely have bout 85 to 100 bucks tired up in the complete kit new.
I run a Cateye micro wireless bicycle speedo on my bike. mounts easily and of course its wireless so it looks clean. cost was about $35 and so far over 3 years with the original battery. only thing is it will not register at speeds over 75 but my 1971 sporty rarely sees those speeds.
@C6vette- I am thinking a bit ahead on a build I am doing and have the same basic issue as in this thread. I have heard others mention a bicycle speedo and my question is: would the bottom of the speedometer computer allow a canvas strap? Or would it be easy to rig up a canvas strap myself? Perhaps around my wrist like a watch?

May have been a little optimistic on the top Speed at 120 mph, Just a bit...

Could be a thought...???

I also run a bike speedo, though mine is not wireless. I run a cateye enduro, same battery for 4 years. Sits right between the riser caps on my bar, cant hardly tell its there.
well im either goin to do the front wheel speedo drive set up or look at the bicycle speedo set up im just not into digital displays and such but may be an option

the speedo I got comes with a little plastic baseplate that has slots for two very thin zip ties. the computer itself clips onto the baseplate. also removes very easily. Im not really sure how you could put a canvas strap on it. I guess you could cut some small slits in the canvas and feed the zip ties through there?
