Running a 72 Ironhead. Gonna tear the shit out of her this winter and make her what I want. In the meantime I'm trying to make sure the engine is running like she should. I know I need to redo the top end as she's spitting up more oil than normal. Other than that she's a cranky, fast mutherfucker.

My question is this, in your experiences with oil temps (Ironhead or otherwise, please specify) what do your temps usually run. Right now I'm running pretty consistently between 190-210. This pretty normal?

Details:
Running straight 60wt oil
72 Ironhead with 20,097 miles
S&S Super E with Thunderjet

Thanks.

That's a real ballpark figure for those bikes. They are supposed to run hot and that's why the piston clearance can't be too tight when rebuilding them. They still run cooler than a flathead. I used to get my header pipes red hot at idle when sitting for long periods of time on a hot summer night.
