LAst Sunday as the MMMC was taking a ride through Angeles Crest, Big Bear, and Idlewild (250 miles). We hatched a plan for a Midnight Run to the Grand Canyon.

Here's the plan:

-leaving Westminster, CA at midnight September 23rd (next full moon)
-ride to the Grand Canyon and watch the sun rise Sunday morning
-have breakfast and come home!

It's a simple plan and I just need to know who else is coming

-This will not be an annual thing
-This will be a one time event that you can talk about for years to come

Danm that sound fun as hell . Lucky moto fucking guzi guys do all the long rides !:D
Sounds fun, but be careful of:

The truckers that run highway 40 for some reason seem to be fucking insane, "sharing the road" takes on a whole new meaning.

Highway 58 from Williams into Tusyan (canyon) has a massive elk & deer vs. car count.

Not trying to be a spoil sport. The same info for all the Smokeout West guys.

I took the I 40 out to Albuquerque and the truckers seem to run at 87 mph
If you stay about 10 to 15 mph faster then them there's no problem.

And as MMMC legend has it, the President of the Motorcycle Club, Art Faxas, once kicked a deer to save himself while riding on a back country road!!!

Just to translate this letter for those of you still reading this thread:

-Steve has a Four-Five sitting in his living room that has been in the same condition for close to twenty years. It's the only one of about ten bikes that is inside the house. Most of the others run but it is the Four-Five that we are waiting to see on the road

-The Bullshit is what comes out of Steve's mouth whenever your expecting a straight answer from him

-Baby Wilson is the Guy who took over the Fullerton shop where Starklite Cycles used to be. Starklite is the shop that worked on McQueen's Indian

-the Mush Beer is Hatuey Cerveza the same makers of the Cuban malt soda Malta Hatuey

-Julian is the place that is packed with shiny motorcycles on blue sky days in the summer in Southern California

-50 years old is half way through

-I didn't piss on the walls just on the president's engine cover, for patina

ENLIGHTENMENT

Right now there are two choices about what you can do with the MMMC Midnight Run to the Grand Canyon.

You can come along or wish you did.

After the ride you'll only have one choice!!

the only part left-out of the above translation is that the president often finsihes-off his proclamations with a white-hot blues riff on his harmonica! and when he speaks music, he ain't got no crazy accent.

********ALSO; ATTENTION EVERYBODY: I remember some thread on here from a while back about trucking/trailering your bike. I remember that the basic consensus was that this practice is OK. um, wrong-o. If you show-up to this ride in a fucking truck, you'd better not have a motorcycle in the back of it. As I said before, motorcycles go in trucks when they are broken, or if you're moving. Really. So, while you guys are doing burnouts up against a wall somewhere, we'll be riding to the Grand Canyon. It'll be fun.

Everyone lived that went (I'm not sure about everyone that didn't show up). It looks like the MMMC still rides alone because the final count was a whopping three...
The ride was awesome and insane. I watched "mad Max" to prepare for this ride but I should have watched "Convoy". We would have need another fifteen guys with us to out number the trucks on the way back.

Final numbers were 1000 miles in 25 hours
1- 91 sportster 1-76 BMW 1- 77 Moto Guzzi

I mounted a flash to my bike so I could shoot photo's on the way
I post some as soon as I process the film
