Found this for sale, said it's a 71 Thunderbolt
Don't have any numbers as of now, but i'm guessing it isn't a 71?
Also what would I look for to verify it is or isn't a 71?
where would you look to verify the mfg date?

Since i'm kinda new to older bike, expcially brit one's, the title should match the motor numbers, correct?

71 and 72 had a bigger rocker box, the cover has two bolts in the top on the flat section(its mostly finned on top) that were used as a top mount or head steady type deal. that was the only two years that had that style head and cover. besides that check the numbers

heres a pic of the cover.....some earlier models had a cover that looked like this but did not have the two bolts in the top

Looks like a '69. This is Siggy and his '69 Lightning. Where are you Sig ? Still in Germany?

is there a place on the frame or motor that will tell the year? hope to check this out saturday, for sale and cheap....
Engine and frame should both have a VIN number. Didn't match on some years.

For a copy of the numbers, go to this link & click tech info:
