Header wrap... autmotive stuff the same?

I noticed Pep Boys/AutoZone/Checkers carry header wrap. Is it junk or the same as I would buy from any bike shop? Need some black header wrap and don't really want to spend a fortune for it. Seems like the going rate is $70 to $80! Let me know what the deal is!

Thanks!

ebay will get u decent wrap for about $35.... honestly, as long as you look for the deals... i dont trust parts stores, LOL
Cool! I'll check around! Thanks!
I used some from a race car parts place and it was white and after about ten minutes it turned kinda grayish. I don't know how anybody gets it to stay white, unless they don't ride the fuckin thing.
It's all pretty much the same stuff.

I got 50' for 25. on sleezbay
I've tried DEI and Thermo-Tec and neither lasted more than 100 miles before turning from balck to grey (see post further down). I've been thinking about trying the stuff from JP Cycles to see if it's any better. Does anybody know what Flyrite used on the "1/4 Scorcher"?

I dont remember the brand I got, but I agree on the black color they came with, turned almost white with a short bit of riding. I painted it with high heat BBQ black from krylon worked perfect. One batch on the turbo headers I painted high heat silver and they still look great.
I got mine from O'reilys Auto parts for around $40.00. The packaged said a 50' roll would do a set of motorcycle exhaust pipes.

By way of camparison here's 2 bikes I wrapped. Both have about the same mileage at the time of the pics. The Shovel was done w/ DEI and the sporty w/ some stuff I was given (no box).

Starting on 3rd year since the BBQ repaint. Wraps holding fine.
I used it to hide all the worms left on the pipes after welding.
ok i was LAZY!
So I consider it a band-aid finish!
Won't use it again!
Okay, I finally got those pipes wrapped and I took it for a ride last night and I thought the fuckin' thing was going to catch on fire from all the toxic smoke coming off of the wrap!!! Is that normal?? Does it go away after you cook it for awhile?? I bought the shit off Ebay... I'll try and load some pics of it tonight. Looks nice!
Its normal for the wrap to smoke for about the first 20 minuates or so. Its all the die and grim burning off.

That's pretty much what my wrap looks like also.

The little clamps that came with wrap SUCKED!!!!!!!! I used hose clamps and life was better.
I think it's pretty much the same stuff they use for pipe lagging on steam lines. Only they use an epoxy type hardener on it like a cast. We have huge rolls of the shit.

Post pics!
