Front fender on a girder front end?

Is any one out there running a front fender on a girder front end, and if so how did you mount it?

I need to run a front fender with my old P&P girder front end, but the front end has no mounts for it and I don't really want to weld tabs onto it and disturb the original old chrome.

I've seen plenty of people back in the day using rubber lined p-clamps around the girder legs (see example below - not my bike), but they're pretty thin and flimsy and I don't know how they would hold up to vibration and road abuse over time.

These come in a few sizes.

the connection from the fender to the clamps looks a bit shy , a sheet as wide that you can use both tubes on the front and 2 rows of bolts in the fender will make difference
a buddy had a SBF (Smith Bros & Fetrow) girder and he made some square clamps like the round rubber mounted ones you show in the above pcture, but without the rubber, he used one on the front leg, and one on the rear and used a cut down stock fender that then bolted on as per the standard front and rear way of fitting on telescopic forks, no forward & back wobeling, it as solidly mounted and didn't have a long mounting strip again as shown in your picture above,this isn't a great pic of it but all i have of it, you can JUST make out the mounts,

Dutch's suggestion, if I understand it right, would also look better than the example shown in post #1. (Which, no slur on El Skitzo is intended; I get that it's not his work.)
Just be aware that anything you clamp around a chrome part will, eventually, given enough time and use, damage the chrome.

Thanks for the tips, we got this sorted in the end using some billet (yeah I know, cough cough...) aluminium p-clamps around the girder legs. These were a lot thicker than the stainless rubber coated p-clamps (see original post), so hopefully they turn out to be a longer lasting stronger choice.

Given the legs are triangulated not parallel to each other, there's so way they fender can slide up or down the legs with vibration. I'll probably line the inside of the clamps with some electrical tape or something similar to protect the chrome when these are clamped in place for the final time.

Unfortunately not enough room to turn them both inwards (we tried it), and we tried one inwards and one outwards in the same direction and that just didn't look right either.

Plus if would could have mounted them both inwards facing each other, the two mounting points for the fender brace on each side would have been so close together the fender would be more likely to wobble forwards and backwards.
Looks just fine to me.
I've hit the front fender with some grey primer and the fender brace/mounting section with some black primer and everything looks much neater now I think.
